Mikado Side Chair Mikado chair from Vitra is designed by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby, 2024. This chair not only strives to impress with its serene yet commanding silhouette, but also through its unparalleled comfort. Mikado offers a dynamic sitting experience where the backrest follows the movements of the back. A mechanism hidden under the seat allows the back to move and offer a comfortable recline. Mikado is available as a frame chair or as a chair. In the arm chair version, the sides of the rounded backrest extend forward to simultaneously function as armrests. Mikado covers are not glued and can be removed for cleaning or replacement. The legs can be replaced individually or replaced with another material option – wood or recycled aluminium. The inner seat panel is made from recycled aluminum while the core of the backrest shell is made from recycled post-consumer polypropylene, which can be easily separated from the foam during recycling. The concept of easy replacement of components gives the Mikado long-lasting versatility, ensuring a long service life.
