C64 Shaker Dining table The C64 Shaker Dining Table was designed by Børge Mogensen for FDB in 1950, but was never put into production. Possibly because of the cruciform legs, which at the time were both a bold design and a difficult build to pull off. 70 years later, FDB Møbler is now launching the table, which despite trends in interior design, appears timeless and with an aesthetic durability. With the elegant and unique chassis under the table top, the simple, rectangular plate works to float freely in the room while providing plenty of legroom. The table bears the stamp of functionality with a practical wear surface and rounded edges, based on Børge Mogensen's inescapable requirement that a piece of furniture should serve man and provide space for human expression. The shaker table was not alone in Børge Mogensen's private dining room. It was at the same time a table type he kept returning to through his career as a furniture architect. Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) was one of the most important and influential representatives of Danish furniture design. Almost everyone in Denmark has experienced his designs – from the well-known, modern FDB furniture of the 1940s to countless classics that have furnished both homes and public spaces in Denmark since the Second World War. Børge Mogensen believed that furniture should fit the human being, rather than the other way around and that functional quality furniture is paramount. The entire range of his furniture designs – sofas, dining tables and dining chairs – is distinguished by a recurring theme: simple lines, solid wooden surfaces and soft, shell cordovan leather.
